Registration of trademark in Belarus

It is easy to register trademarks in this state, because the legislation of this country is as close as possible to the legislation of the Russian Federation familiar for Russian businessmen. Registration of trademark is carried out in accordance with several stages:

1. The application is submitted to specially established National Intellectual Property Center either by the owner of the trademark or by the lawyers of our company;
2. Preliminary examination by the employees of the National Center of the Republic of Belarus is carried out within two days with the purpose of admitting the trademark to full-fledged examination or refusal of subsequent registration; at this stage, payment of fees and correctness of the completion of documents are monitored;
3. The examination of the claimed designation is the main stage of the verification, which may be delayed for a long time, but after the expiration of six months from the commencement of consideration of the application, the request for urgent examination can be issued, in which case the registration period will be reduced from three years to one year;
4. After conducting the examination, the National Center makes final decision, consisting either in issuing the certificate confirming registration, or in refusal, which further can be appealed within three months after the announcement of the results.

Registering a brand name in the Republic of Belarus, as in other countries,  is effective for ten years after the issuance of the certificate, and this period can be subsequently extended without additional examinations, but only with repeated payment of specially provided fee.

In this case, the trademark remains registered in specially prepared state register of the country.
