Registering a trademark in Hungary
The National Office of Hungary, engaged in registration of trademarks, carries out its work in close connection with corresponding worldwide organization to combat counterfeiting. Relevant standards have been adopted in order to register trademark and protect against violations.
Residents of the country and foreign citizens who tend to establish their own business and entrepreneurial activity in the country need to carry out certain actions.
Hungary: application for trademark registration
Properly compiled application shall be submitted to the office of authorized bodies for registration of trademark, and the following provisions shall be mandatory included in the application:
- Country of origin of the trademark;
- Contact and personal information of the applicant;
- Image of the future trademark, transliteration, if it contains figures or Roman letters, as well as translation of information on the trademark into Hungarian;
- Detailed description of the trademark and indication of its main elements that require protection;
- Goods or services that are indicated by the trademark;
- Signatures of the applicant and his representatives.
The application should be accompanied by documents that will be confirmation of the full legality of use of certain details in the trademark that can be requested by the country's office. It is necessary to translate all the documents, as well as prevent possible misleading the potential consumers.
Objection may be raised against the registration of the trademark within one year after the submission of documents. The ground can be non-compliance of trademark with the requirements stipulated by the rules of the domestic legislation of the country. If there is no such objection, the trademark automatically acquires the status of protected.
Procedure of registering a brand name in Hungary

- It is recommended to use the rules set forth by the Bureau for Harmonization of the Internal Market during the process of obtaining the certificate.

- For entrepreneurs who are not related to the EU, registration according to international system is suitable.
Any graphic symbol, word combinations, just letters and figures can act as trademark. Regardless of the type of trademark, the registration process remains the same in all cases.
