The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) calls on New Zealand to adopt a new set of rules governing the licensing of gambling establishments and online casinos. The government has developed a document and is already conducting a public discussion. IBIA representatives reminded New Zealand of the successful experiences of the Scandinavian countries, as well as Spain and the UK.
The IBIA hopes that the New Zealand authorities will opt for liberal taxation of gambling activities. Representatives of the Association emphasize that if taxes are too high in the jurisdiction, this may adversely affect the interest of companies planning to register an online casino in New Zealand.
IBIA also emphasizes that license fees should not be regarded as a significant source of budget revenue. They are only an additional tool. If the tax policy of the jurisdiction regarding gambling is liberal, the country will be able to count on significant revenues. IBIA representatives also recalled that the most effective way of taxing the industry is not taxes on turnover, but taxes on gross income.
