Sweden is considering an option of adoption of a new law that will regulate activities in the field of gambling.
The government proposes to conduct licensing and establish a tax for companies that operate remotely in the country, providing gambling services from other states.
Draft law implies obtaining a license for activities in the field of online gambling for operating in the territory of Sweden, as well as filing of new rules for consumer protection. The tax rate on total revenue from gambling for companies holding a license will be 18%.
Moreover, according to this law, activities in the Swedish market will be prohibited for unlicensed remote gambling companies.
Above draft law will complement current regulatory framework dated back to 1930s, as it regulates only the activities of monopoly operators, as well as state-owned casinos and lotteries.
If the indicated draft kaw is approved in the parliament, new regime will come into force on January 1, 2019.
