Legislative clauses concern both the layout of logos and the contents of the chants, as well as the requirements for companies applying for the registration of trademark. The lawyers of Law&Trust are familiar with all the details of the process of registration of trademarks in Burundi. We provide legal services for citizens of all states and work with all spheres of legal activity.

The process of registration of trademark in Burundi

  1. Preparation of trademark. TM can be expressions, names, surnames, company names, letters, schemes, pictures, symbols, notes, sounds and even three-dimensional images of objects. When submitting selected TM to regional expert commission, it verifies the trademark for compliance with all state norms and moral standards.

  2. Submission of application for consideration. The examination process can be referred to as formal one, because the main attention is paid for verifying documentation, while searching for coincidences with already existing trademarks is done in a percursory manner. The application is compiled according to special protocol, which you can obtain from the lawyers of our company.

  3. The examination lasts for one year with minor deviations. The term does not include collection, preparation and forwarding of documentation by our employees.

  4. Once issued, the trademark is valid for 10 years. It can be renewed for the same period within one year by means of paying state fee. In case the brand is not used for about 5 years, its operation may be terminated. Third parties can challenge the trademark within three months from the date of publication of the registration data. Challenging is conducted on the basis of sound reasons, such as plagiarism, violation of rights and miscellaneous.

Not every businessman has the time and the desire to go into the subtleties of the above processes. And in view of the foregoing, there are more experienced specialists in the legal affairs who are lawyers of Law&Trust International.
