In 1997, the bank's shareholders Finnish Fund for Industrial Cooperation Ltd with Merita NordbankenGroup and the Nordic Investment Bank created a consortium that acquired a controlling stake. In 1999, the group Merita Nordbanken Group became sole shareholder of the bank, and the bank was renamed into Merita Nordbanken Latvia.
