The European Commission is investigating the taxation of gambling companies that are registered in Germany. Officials will check how lawfully such organizations apply the preferential tax payment regime in force in the EU. The German gambling operator may be charged with violating competition law.
The reason for such an investigation was the complaints of companies operating in the gambling business. According to the applicants, public casinos that use special tax regimes benefit from paying taxes in violation of European Union law. German gambling operators are not required to pay income and corporate taxes by paying a single tax.
A separate case is being investigated in relation to one of the gambling companies registered in the North Rhine-Westphalia region. The operator received reimbursement of losses from the state budget of Germany in 2015. The applicants are sure that this was done illegally and that the public casino should be fined.
