The process of registering a brand name in Lebanon

There are four main stages of registration procedure, namely:

  1. After consulting the client and obtaining power of attorney to represent his interests in various authorities, we embark upon collecting the documentation. Detailed list of forms can be specified during conversation with the lawyer. Statements from tax authorities, bank accounts and state register are prevalently needed.   2. Preparation of the documentation package consists of proofreading and verification of forms for legal errors, compliance with the provisions of Lebanese legislation, and translation of documents into the official language of the expert commission. All forms are certified by a notary seal after text interpretation.
  3. Consideration of the application, the logo and the package of documents ranges from 12 to 24 months, depending on the length of the queues and the accuracy of the compilation of all forms. The commission is primarily examining the application, and the process takes about 1 month. If any mistakes are found out, the form is returned to the applicant for elimination of shortcomings. Further, the logo is examined for its uniqueness and the presence of prohibited or immoral elements. After that, the main package of documentation is examined and the information regarding the introduction of new trademark is published in the country's registry.
  4. Permission for conducting economic activity is issued if there are no objections within three months after the publication of the data or the latter have been successfully eliminated. The period of validity of the trademark in Lebanon is 10 years.
