Data Leaks Will Now Be Used By The Tax Authorities Of Belgium

The tax authorities have obtained permission from the Belgian court to use previously stolen banking data in order to carry out searching for tax evaders. The source is Belgian publishing house of “L'Echo ”

The decision of the Court of Cassation stated that: "the origin of information does not affect the authenticity of judicial decisions, because the authorities having used the leak, in turn, did not commit any offenses".

The adoption of such decision is directly related to the investigations of numerous cases regarding tax evasion by Belgian citizens which were pursued several years ago. Information concerning tax evaders was received by the tax service in the course of unauthorized leakage of data from the LGT bank in Liechtenstein.
